“Labyrinth” coming to Madison
East Side labyrinth will offer chance for reflection
Residents will soon have a chance to engage in peaceful reflection when a labyrinth opens July 25 at Carpenter-Ridgeway Neighborhood Park on the city’s East Side.
But it isn’t the kind of labyrinth you get lost in. Rather, as you trace its route you’re encouraged to take an introspective journey.
“A labyrinth is not a maze, it has no dead-ends, it gives no problem to resolve and there is no task to accomplish,” reads a sign to be posted in front of the structure.
Susan Schmitz, chairwoman of the Madison Parks Foundation, said her group was “amazed” at how quickly the $9,000 cost was raised through donations from residents and other sources, including a $2,000 grant from the city of Madison and a $500 grant from the Madison Gas & Electric Foundation.
